The Roots through Education

The Roots through Education

Sri Kashyap Rishi School of Unlearning and Relearning is a transformative educational initiative dedicated to nurturing young minds in the Kashmir Valley by rebuilding values, confidence, and hope at the grassroots level.

The program is based on the belief that true and lasting peace begins with early childhood education that promotes learning, emotional well-being, and positive thinking.

Decades of conflict and instability have deeply impacted the social and psychological environment of the region. This initiative seeks to address these challenges by bringing value-based, community-centered education closer to children, helping them unlearn fear, division, and negativity, and relearn the principles of peace, coexistence, diversity, and responsible citizenship.

Current Impact

60 community-based schools across different regions of the Kashmir Valley
120 women teachers serving as educators and mentors
Around 3,000 students receiving foundational and value-based education

These schools not only provide basic learning but also focus on character building, emotional healing, and creating a safe and encouraging learning environment.

Vision for Expansion

The long-term goal is to establish 500 village-based schools across Jammu & Kashmir to ensure that education reaches children at the grassroots level. The expansion plan includes:

  • Coverage across all 10 districts of the Kashmir region
  • One resource person per district for academic and operational support
  • 10 tehsils per district, with 10 schools in each tehsil
  • Each school led by a teacher-cum-mentor
  • Support and monitoring through local community (Grameen Samiti) members
  • Supervisory structure with one supervisor for every 10 schools

Schools function for limited daily hours and teachers are supported through monthly honorarium along with basic operational assistance for learning materials and stationery.

Focus Areas

  • Heal young minds affected by conflict
  • Promote peace, tolerance, and social harmony
  • Broaden children’s horizons through meaningful learning
  • Build awareness against addiction, violence, and extremism
  • Strengthen early childhood development and value-based education
  • Support counter-radicalization through education
Research shows that nearly 85% of brain development occurs before the age of six, making early intervention critical. By focusing on this age group, the program works to build strong emotional, ethical, and intellectual foundations that help prevent radicalization and social alienation in later years.

Empowering Communities through Education

Women teachers from local communities play a key role as educators, role models, and change-makers. The initiative not only educates children but also strengthens community participation, local leadership, and social responsibility.

Sri Kashyap Rishi School of Unlearning and Relearning is more than an education program—it is a movement to transform minds, restore hope, and nurture a generation that will contribute positively to society.
